This is a white type Indian Gourd.
Similar to the India Long Green type, the fruits have teeths on the skin.
This variety bears long cylindrical fruits, 8-12 inches in length and 1/4 Lb. in weight.
Like other Bitter Gourds, it is suggested to grow plants with supports.
This subtropical plant grows vigorously in warm climates.
Very productive.
Growing Instructions
Bitter Gourd can be grown year round. It grows well in sandy loam to clay loam soil. It needs support for growing as it is a vine. You can grow it along wired fences or can raise support at 2.5 meters between rows using bamboo staples or other support systems. Moisten the seeds in water for at least 12 hours before sowing. Sow it at a depth of 2 cm and cover with loose soil to allow it to grow. You can also germinated it by wrapping the seeds in wet cloth and place them in a dark place. Keep the cloth wet always. After the seeds has sprouted you can transplant them with a spacing of about 18 inches between plants. You can also use nylon nets for growing. Bitter ground needs water and also full sun for growth. It takes upto 2 weeks time to germinate and the germination ratio will be around 60% to 70 %
