An Indian household cannot do without methi or fenugreek seeds and leaves.

The leaves are used as spinach. The leaves can be dried and used as herbs, the seeds can be ground into a spice, and the plant matter itself can be used as a vegetable, like sprouts and microgreens. The seeds are used in cooking, to make medicine, or to hide the taste of other medicine. Fenugreek seeds smell and taste somewhat like maple syrup.

Growing Instructions

Fenugreek plants  is grown and used as spinach in India. Fenugreek grows well in slightly acidic soil with ph 6.5 with full partial or filterd sunlight. It grow well in loamy well drained soil. It can be grown in 12 inch platers or large trays filled with soil rich in minerals like organic compost. It does not perform well  if transplanted and so needs to be sown directly.  Soak the seeds overnight before sowing. It needs to be sown above the soil covered with little soil. It can be spread unevenly and kept moist until the seeds germinate. If used as spinach cut the plants at stem level when they are six inches tall. If grown for seeds it should be left to flower and produce seeds.
