Yardlong Bean, also called Chinese Long Bean, is a vigorous climbing annual and the plant begins to produce long pods, ranging from 14 to 30 inches, 60 days after sowing.

The pods hang in pairs that should be picked for vegetable uses before matured.

Growing Instructions

Yard Long beans grows well in warm climate. Add manure to the soil before sowing. Select a spot that receives maximum sunlight and prefer to put the rows in north to south direction so that the plants receive most sunlight. Direct sowing is best for this plant. Sow at a depth of around ¼ inch deep with a spacing of 1 to 1 ½ feet between plants. Water them and the seed starts to grown in a week time. As the plants grow they may need support to grow, so grow them along fences or trellis or poles. It may take about 2 month for the pods to appear. Some pods may grow up to 3 feet in length. Always harvest before the pods ripen or before the color of the pods turn pale. The optimal picking length is between 12-18 inches long. Some times daily picking may be required.
