Growing InstructionsCalifornia poppy is a cool season flowering plant which is slightly drought tolerant. Prepare the soil by adding well-aged manure or organic compost into the soil prior to planting to improve soil conditions and help promote abundant blooms. They like to grow in direct sunlight with ample of water and well drained soil. Direct seeding is preferable, as poppies do not like to have their roots disturbed. Sow the seeds directly by burying them very thinly in soil. Do not over feed the plants and this will lead to excessive growth with less flower production. Avoid overhead watering whenever possible and use soaker, hoses or drip irrigation. The California poppy (Eschscholzia californica) is a naturally seeding colorful wildflower. California poppy is useful as a container plant as well as a meadow or wildflower addition.
